Dairy Development
 

Under the Non-operational flood, hill and backward area development programme of Dairy Development initiated by the Deptt of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Govt of India, a part of the East Siang and Papum-Pare district was brought under the ambit of Integrated Dairy Development Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The project was to be implemented during the period from 1993-94 to 1997-98 and was allowed to be continued upto 2004-05 after modification for establishment of the following:

 
1. 1 No 5000 LPD Dairy Plant at Karsingsa, Itanagar
2. 1 no. 2000 LPD Chilling centre at Pasighat, East Siang District.
 

The Dairy plant at Itanagar was commissioned and inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 27th September' 2005. Now the Dairy Plant is fully functional 38 Dairy Cooperative Societies Papum-Pare and East Siang District. The Dairy Plant situated at Karsingsa, (Itanagar) is marketing the pouch packed milk by the brand name of "ARUN DAIRY". The milk collected from these societies is much below the need of the growing population of the state. As such, another project was sanctioned by the Govt. of India in 2010 (IDDP-2) for extending the project activities to three other districts namely West Siang, Conversion of Chilling Plant at Pasighat in East Siang to Dairy Plant, and strengthening the Dairy Plant at Itanagar, Papum-Pare District. The project has been sanctioned to the Milk Union namely Arunachal Pradesh Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Limited and implementation of the project is going on.
