The Department of Animal Husbandry Veterinary came into being in the year 1972 after bifurcated from the Agriculture Department, with one Dy. Director (AHV) as i/c Director (AHV) with Dr. Borgohain Deputy Director became the First full-fledged Director (AHV) in the year 1978. The temporary Headquarter was shifted to an unmanned area called Nirjuli, where all the hub of animal husbandry activity was developed. Later on with implementation of central scheme on Integrated Dairy Development Project of Government of India, the Dairy Development was added with the Department of Animal Husbandry Veterinary in the year 1995. The Department of Animal Husbandry Veterinary and Dairy Development is the nodal Department for formulating plan, policies and programmes of Government of Arunachal Pradesh related Animal husbandry and Veterinary as well as Dairy development and is responsible for its successful implementation.
In the year 1977 three local Veterinary graduates passed out from College of Vety Science (AAU) Guwahati and joined the A.H & Veterinary Service viz Dr. Bero Ado, Dr. T. Darang and Dr. Dani Tamu, with Dr. B. Ado having joined the service a day earlier than the two, became the First Tribal Veterinary graduate to ascend the post of Director (AHV) on 5/5/2002 and retired as the longest serving Director (AHV) on 28/2/2011. Now at present Dr. Hage Tabin, Director (AHV) is assisted by 150 Veterinarian in the department of which 132 are local Veterinary graduates.
